Title: Impact of Short-term Dietary Modification on Postprandial Oxidative Stress

نویسنده

چکیده

General: This study was designed to examine the effects of a 21-day Daniel Fast on markers of oxidative stress and endothelial function following ingestion of a high-fat milkshake. The study effectively controlled for compliance, recent exercise, and other extraneous variables that could have erroneously affected the outcome measures. The primary finding stated was that such a diet can improve post-meal markers of these oxidative stress measures; however, the data were not statistically significantly different and do not support these assertions.

Impact of short-term dietary modification on postprandial oxidative stress

BACKGROUND We have recently reported that short-term (21-day) dietary modification in accordance with a stringent vegan diet (i.e., a Daniel Fast) lowers blood lipids as well as biomarkers of oxidative stress. However, this work only involved measurements obtained in a fasted state. In the present study, we determined the postprandial response to a high-fat milkshake with regards to blood trigl...

Short term effects of ginger on quality of life, disease activity index, inflammatory and oxidative stress factors in ulcerative colitis

Background: Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress are the two essential factors determining ulcerative colitis (UC) onset and severity status. In present study, we aimed to investigate short-term effects of ginger (Zingiber officinale) as a well-known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent on the quality of life, disease activity index and some of inflammatory and oxidative stress factors ...

Impact of postprandial glycaemia on health and prevention of disease

Postprandial glucose, together with related hyperinsulinemia and lipidaemia, has been implicated in the development of chronic metabolic diseases like obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). In this review, available evidence is discussed on postprandial glucose in relation to body weight control, the development of oxidative stress, T2DM, and CVD and in maint...

Research: Treatment A randomized crossover study to assess the effect of an oat-rich diet on glycaemic control, plasma lipids and postprandial glycaemia, inflammation and oxidative stress in Type 2 diabetes

AIMS In the UK, lifestyle intervention is first-line management in Type 2 diabetes. It is unclear what type of diet is most efficacious for improving glycaemic control. This study investigated the effects of an oat-enriched diet on glycaemic control, postprandial glycaemia, inflammation and oxidative stress compared with standard dietary advice. METHODS In a randomized crossover design, 27 vo...

Evidence for an independent and cumulative effect of postprandial hypertriglyceridemia and hyperglycemia on endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress generation: effects of short- and long-term simvastatin treatment.

BACKGROUND Postprandial hypertriglyceridemia and hyperglycemia are considered risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Evidence suggests that postprandial hypertriglyceridemia and hyperglycemia induce endothelial dysfunction through oxidative stress; however, the distinct role of these two factors is a matter of debate. METHODS AND RESULTS Thirty type 2 diabetic patients and 20 normal subject...
